A collaboration project between multiple users of the 2ch Image Boards, Yume 2kki is one of the first Yume Nikki fangames out there. It stars a girl named Urotsuki who, much like Madotsuki, has really, really messed up dreams. Notable for being outright huge in comparison to even the first Yume Nikki, and there's still lots and lots planned. The game can be downloaded here and updates very frequently. Additionally, the game may be played online with added social functionality and progression systems.

Yume 2kki (Video Game) / int_1467a30c | comment |
Unexpected Gameplay Change: The Mini Maze uses a first-person perspective, and is the only world in the game with a Level-Map Display. The FC Caverns are a surprisingly sophisticated Platform Game, in which effects unlock different abilities or alter movement physics. For example, the Twintails effect allows Urostuki to Wall Jump, while the Bike effect increases her movement speed but decreases her jump height.

Flying Saucer: A giant UFO randomly appears in a building in the Broken Faces Area. If you enter it and pick the apple on the control screen, you will find yourself on the path to the Red Riding Hood Effect. Sadly, as of version 0.103i, the interior of the UFO cannot be accessed and it will simply drop Urotsuki in 1 of 3 different areas: Fairy Tale Woods, Broken Faces Area, and The Apartments with the Apartments's zebra crossing area replacing the White Fern World. To change between worlds all Urotsuki needs to do is simply to interact with the UFO again.

Multiple Endings | |
Yume 2kki (Video Game) / int_1aa08f77 | comment |
Multiple Endings: Several, most of them highly contradictory and Gainax-y. One has Urotsuki look like she's about to mirror Yume Nikki's ending, only to ditch the mini stairway at the last second, and leave her room. The credits show her peacefully biking. Another has her actually make the jump....but she turns out to have been a prize in a UFO Catcher (prize grabber) machine....yeah. The third has her pinch herself awake while 'awake' in the real world. She wakes up yet again, and is on the floor with a pile of books. Implying the whole thing was a literature-inspired dream-within-a-dream. All of these have different ending conditions, of course. The fourth has her setting up the staircase, and then....a train pulls up to her balcony, and a black creature onboard beckons her on to the train, which then departs. Ehhh? Another has the strange implication that Urotsuki's room is infected with some kind of invisible something that turns Urotsuki into a monster... maybe? There are also a couple false endings you can encounter through random chance that just make things more complex.

Yume 2kki (Video Game) / int_31ad339a | comment |
Shrines and Temples: The Shinto Shrine is, as its name suggests, the typical Japanese Shinto shrine - except it's much larger on the inside. The Maple Shrine, which can be randomly accessed by walking through one of the Torii gates in front of the shrine or teleporting to the area is extremely similar, except for the maple leafs in the area and the large interior being replaced with a smaller maze. The Haniwa Temple isn't dedicated to any religion as far as it seems - instead, it dedicates itself to Haniwas, specifically those based on the small "dancing" terracotta figures.

Crapsaccharine World | |
Yume 2kki (Video Game) / int_3b79029a | comment |
Crapsaccharine World: A few worlds have a cutesy appearance but become more frightening the further you explore. Pastel Sky Park is exactly what it seems on the surface— a cute pastel-colored Fluffy Cloud Heaven. Equipping the Glasses, Eyeball Bomb or Marginal effects will show the area's true form: the clouds turn red and the cute NPCs grow eyeballs on their heads. The only hint of this world's true nature beforehand is that the teleporter turns from a cute blob with a face to a red eye when Urotsuki approaches. Fantasy Isle is a pastel collection of islands filled with cute smiling satyr NPCs. When you cross the bridge to get to the next island, the corpses of the NPCs are scattered across the ground and you discover that a bunch of weird horse-like creatures have been imprisoning the satyrs for unknown reasons. Board Game Islands is a lovely EarthBound (1994)-inspired world with peppy music and cute characters. If you use the Dice effect and randomly roll the red eye, things instantly change as the colors turn red and black and eyes appear everywhere. Not to mention that this event can randomly teleport you to an island with the creepy-looking "King Fuun", or that you can trigger an event within the event that involves a creepy FACE-like mask trapping Urotsuki inside itself.

Scenery Porn: A lot of the worlds in the game, are very detailed and aesthetically pleasing to look at. Special mention goes to the worlds made by Wataru and Mosenite, which have lots of lush landscapes to traverse. note Though a few of Wataru's worlds, like Overgrown City, may fall under Scenery Gorn due to having very bleak and abandoned appearances. After those worlds were published, we had creators such as qxy and RÃo making very beautiful maps, too, with many being even more detailed than the maps of the authors above due to them being made later. To list every single map that falls under this trope would take up a large portion of this page.

Guide Dang It! | |
Yume 2kki (Video Game) / int_6ec989d8 | comment |
Guide Dang It!: As not a lot follows logical sense in the dream world, expect players to mindlessly try every effect on every new NPC they meet in the hopes of getting some response. But it gets worse than that: One area can only be accessed by flipping a switch in one room, traveling to another room, and then using the glasses effect to reveal a secret path. Another secret path is unlocked by entering the Konami Code by entering tunnels and interacting with statues. A submarine can only be entered by going to a specific point on the map and traveling back and forth until the hatch opens. Getting the Rabbit Ears effect involves performing a fairly long series of tasks in a specific order. Of course, no help is given. Voxel Island, one of the deepest locations in the game, has some bizarre conditions to getting to it, one depending on Nexus color, the other dependent on not having the Drum effect with you despite needing the Drum effect to get to the Silhouette Complex. The Red Strings Maze's solution isn't exactly made apparent. What the game doesn't tell you when navigating is that you must walk around until you loop back to the entrance, then go the opposite of the way you came. One of the doors will unlock, allowing you to proceed to the next area. The secret to navigating Dream Pool is only given via environmental hints that a player might discard as just extraneous scenery.

Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: By eating one of the cheeses in the Block Zone (specifically the one in the Tic-Tac-Toe area), Urotsuki will then appear as a ginormous version (large enough to kick over/trample larger buildings) of herself in a "miniature" city, where she then can (and will) trample buildings and wreak massive havoc within said city, plus it even gives you a wallpaper◊ for doing so. There is also an event in Square-Square World where you may encounter a giant (nicknamed "The Colossus of Rhomb"), who will wake you up if you manage to see it.

Soundtrack Dissonance: In the brightly colored Mushroom World, there is a warp to an alternate Mushroom World with much a much darker appearance, with bloodstained mushrooms, some of which have an eye for a cap. Both worlds have the same cheery music. There's also the Infinite Library. In the bedroom area that you access it from, a music box song starts playing, which sounds soothing at first. However, once you enter the Infinite Library, the mood suddenly changes to suspense with the same song still playing. Cheerful circus music plays in the decidedly cryptic High Priestess event, where you must chainsaw 6 closets while avoiding shadowy chasers.

Timed Mission: Snowy Forest can only be explored for two minutes maximum before day breaks and Urotsuki wakes up. But certain effects can stop or even reverse the timer. Spore Forest can only be explored for about 3 minutes and 40 seconds before the miasma gets too intense for Urotsuki to handle. Drowsy Forest takes it to the next level with its 40-second time limit. If you fail to find the exit in time, Urotsuki wakes up in a strange version of her own bedroom. However, there is a way to reset the time limit...

Shout-Out | |
Yume 2kki (Video Game) / int_c75df49a | comment |
Shout-Out: There's a room in the Apartment Complex where you can try on outfits belonging to the protagonists of other Yume Nikki fangames. Using the Boy effect, Urotsuki can use various bathroom spots. Almost always this will spawn a monster clown in the main bathroom. If you interact with a blank window after moving through the Never-Ending Hallway long enough, you'll encounter a replica of Madotsuki's room if it were located in Moonside. The Highway area has the Neon Highway, which has a similar neon aesthetic and surreal atmosphere to Moonside. A shop located nearby also has a Pencil Statue and Eraser Statue in the back. There are various Yume Nikki references, lots of characters and environments designed to resemble the original areas. Maybe Urotsuki is a fan? Oni Musume looks an awful lot like Remilia Scarlet, except with pigtails and bows. There's an NPC that is practically Sachiko from Corpse Party. Usamimi looks kinda like Koromon, except with blood from his eyes. Supuraito looked like a caged Navi. A previously removed area used sprites from the GBA Pokémon games. Similarly, the cave in Erratic Pillar Lands seems to have its tileset entirely lifted from the Cave of Origin in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Using different effects in Word World will change the words on the ground. Using the Cake effect near the word "Case" will change it to "The Cake is a Lie". There is a lush forest area in the game called Forest Interlude. The FC Caverns have some VVVVVV-esque characters inside of it.

Yume 2kki (Video Game) / int_e6ce4b | comment |
The Maze: Quite a few, most notably a first-person one. There is also the Intestines Maze, which you need to navigate in order to access certain areas. There are many portals accessible in the maze, as well as a few chasers roaming around. Though not in the literal sense, some of the larger worlds, like Monochrome Feudal Japan, can count as a maze, due to being humongous in size and difficult to navigate.

Dark Reprise: The main theme for the Underwater Amusement Park is a jolly, circus-like tune. If you access the Lonely Urotsuki event in the same area, a darker, more melancholic version of the piece will play as you see a scene of Urotsuki as a child, being completely alone in the center of a path and ignored by shadowy passerby.

Game Within a Game: Urotsuki's console contains lots of different games to play. Red Blue Yellow, a shooter where you must match colors. Wavy Up, a short horror game about a girl trapped in an office building. Plated Snow Country, a game where a girl named Itetsuki must collect a bunch of snow-related items to save her friend. The Kura Puzzles, a collection of sliding block puzzles that can be unlocked by visiting certain places in the dream world. FUJI, a NASU-like game unlocked by giving a present to a girl in Christmas World. And finally there's Gimmick Runner, an unfinished Lode Runner-like game.

Random Event: The "Bleak Future" / "Glitch Ending" event has a whopping 1/64 chance of triggering when you sleep in the bed in the replica of Urotsuki's bedroom in the Dream Apartments. Have fun! There's a special place you can rarely go when you wake up from the dream - it's a 1/818 chance. Yes, really. It used to be easier to activate but the developers wanted it to be more special. "It Came From Behind", the huge shadowy creature that floats across the screen in Neon City, has a 1/2500 chance of appearing. This makes its appearance even more startling, since the low encounter rate makes it difficult to tell if the creature will appear or not.

Beware the Nice Ones: In some worlds, there are fair-skinned women with black hats and dresses who look like the Shadow Lady chasers that appear in many areas. They appear to be harmless at first, as they don't attack or interact with you as with most non-Chaser NPCs. However, if you chainsaw one of them, she'll instantly turn into a Shadow Lady and force you to run away.

Video Game Cruelty Punishment
Yume 2kki (Video Game) / int_fcd993bd | comment |
Video Game Cruelty Punishment: In Fairy Tale Woods, you can cause a person in a well to fall to their death by cutting a rope. Doing so will bar any other way out and get you chased by countless monsters until some come at you from the front, which forces you awake. There's also the sheep, who will chainsaw you if you attempt to chainsaw it. In the Japanese Ghost Village, if you kill the person who gives you the broken arm effect, the area becomes filled with the shadow ladies. In the forest area, if you hurt the sane Shadow Lady there, escape down the hole, and return, the forest will become filled with malevolent Shadow Ladies and will be dark. Killing Megusuriuri will cause the Eldritch Abomination in one of his cabinets to fester and mutate his office and Box-chan. After seeing this, you can never enter the office or see Hakoko-chan again. That is, unless you interact with the boy in the Bleak Future. In an area close to that, stabbing an eyed creature many times can transport you to a place with a giant head with a very hyperactive eye laughing, and you will wake up after a while there. If you chainsaw the clown in the building of the Guts World, it will mug you. If you don't have enough money, it will send you to the creepy head room as mentioned above. If you try to chainsaw the man in the fox mask, he will Flash Step behind you; he might counter attack and send you to an isolated area. Peeing on the wall in Japan Town will spawn a very fast clown in Marijuana Goddess World and a shadow lady in the already difficult Dark Warehouse. A now-removed event involved Urotsuki pulling a chainsaw on someone in the ice cream shop of GALAXY Town, only to be instantly shot and left to die by the citizens. This event was deemed too unnecessarily cruel and was taken out from the game. There is an event that fits this criteria in the current GALAXY Town, though. If you use the chainsaw on the chainsaw girl, she'll counter attack and teleport you to a sealed-off room. If you chainsaw the large white rooted creature in Blood World, the music will grow more frantic and Scary Faces will chase you around, along with some ghosts slowing you down. Bothering the Mask Shop Owner too many times with the bell without buying anything will make her send monsters after Urotsuki when you try to leave the area and turn her into a mask.

The Piano Player: Elvis Masada, who plays a tune if you interact with him. Interacting with him using the Trombone effect will start a smooth jazz duet. There is also a white-haired piano player in the Picture Book area. If you kill her, the area will turn dark, and the piano loop in the background will be replaced with a more depressing one. She also appears in the Innocent Dream; interacting with her there will cause Urotsuki to undergo an out-of-body experience that sends her to the Fantasy Library.
