Everyone Is Home is a web-comic by Wooden Plank Studios, being an Affectionate Parody of the Super Smash Bros. universe. The premise is that all the series' fighters live together in one building, and the comics feature segments of their day-to-day lives as they interact with each other (and with Masahiro Sakurai). The series name was first officially used with Everyone Is Dead in August of 2018, though the art style and characters were used in comics before then.Initially starting out as a series of mostly-unrelated gags occasionally posted on the Wooden Plank Studios website, June 2021 would see the start of longer story arcs, typically involving the Smashers visiting other video game worlds to either resolve a crisis or to otherwise get into various antics within. The full series can be found here with dubs by GabaLeth here.Tropes

Scenery Censor: During the communal shower in "Royal Belly", multiple characters have their private parts covered with soap bubbles. In Sephiroth's Palace, all the shadows are topless, with the female ones conveniently censored by other objects so their breasts won't show. When Zelda wakes up topless during the Tears of the Kingdom arc, her breasts are covered first with a few Little Froxes then in dust clouds.

Totem Pole Trench: In the "A Christmas Warol" arc, the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come is played by Sans and Sephiroth inside a single black cloak. We never see inside the cloak, but we do see Sans' glowing eye under the hood, and Sephiroth's single wing sticking out of the back. They also argue with each other at a couple of points.

Tempting Fate In "Dinner Despair", (Dr.) Mario advises Cloud to let bygones be bygones and start trusting Sephiroth... right before everyone drops dead from the latter's poison. In “Twitching Streamer, Iono is freaking out over Sora, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy all popping up on her stream. She’s trying to keep her cool, and reminds herself that they’re people too, not sacred entities. Very next panel, Sora challenges her to a battle and sends out ARCEUS.

Gone Horribly Right: In "Group Ahead, In Short ahh, Beautiful…", Lucca and Travis Touchdown stop Otacon from pulling the trigger on the Chosen Undead. They reveal they've lured the FromSoftware protagonists and pit them all against their games' strongest bosses. The BossesFlamelurker; Artorias of the Abyss; the Burnt Ivory King; the Soul of Cinder; Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower; Isshin, the Sword Saint; and Malenia, Blade of Miquella. It becomes one big Mêlée à Trois that Travis calls "glorious." Once the main fighters are easily beaten, the bosses turn their attention to the observers. The next panel has the three taken away by a Master Hand after their offscreen beatdown, but Travis calls the experience "Totally worth it."

His teammates just spam healing spells, which one might not think it works due to Shulk being dead. Wrong Genre Savvy: In "Yiga Knockout", the Yiga Clan captures Mario, the Ice Climbers, Donkey Kong, and Sheik and plan to offer them as sacrifices to Ganondorf once he is revived. If this were a normal Legend of Zelda game then this would be perfectly reasonable and probably even accepted by Ganondorf. But in this setting, Ganondorf is a Mean Character, Nice Actor, and does not appreciate his friends being threatened, even by someone who just revived him. He promptly lays waste to the entire Yiga Clan and escorts his friends safely outside.

The fact that no one noticed that Byleth's body was an obvious dummy that had a crudely stitched face until the Luminary pointed it out when they began to revive the Fire Emblem characters, as the real Byleth was immediately revived by Sothis via Divine Pulse, faked her death and departed on her own quest to stop Sephiroth and prove herself. During the flashback to the reveal party Sephiroth didn't catch Byleth spilling her drink and pretending to be dead. On a similar note Sephiroth also didn't notice that "Samus" was actually an empty Varia Suit and that the real Samus had left on a mission weeks before the party.

Chekhov's Gag: One "Animal Crossing" strip is all about how each and every individual island has their own set of workers, such as Timmy and Tommy, Isabelle, the Able Sisters and so on. This becomes relevant later on when Isabelle needs to be "revived." When Link is put into the Shrine of Resurrection, he's declared not to be able to reawaken for another century, leading his portrait to be colored but marked with a question mark for each strip. In "Shine On You Brilliant Diamond", the fighters find Dialga, allowing them to travel to the future and pick up Link when he awakens in "Hylian Invasion".

Mythology Gag: In Mr. Arts & Crafts, Hero is seen wearing paper cutouts that make him look like Vegeta. His home series, Dragon Quest, has character design by Akira Toriyama, who created Dragon Ball. In On Sephiroth’s Left, Sephiroth’s Palace takes the form of a museum, with Joker and Morgana telling their new teammates that they’ve infiltrated a museum before, that being Madarame’s Museum of Vanity in their debut game. Additionally, Tifa’s Metaverse attire bears a great resemblance to Jesse, one of her fellow members of AVALANCHE. Also, Squirtle gets some shades that bring to mind Ash's Squirtle while he was a member of the Squirtle Squad. Outside of the Metaverse, Sephiroth’s Treasure is stated to have taken the form of a shampoo bottle. In Crisis Core, Sephiroth had an in-universe fan club that discovers that he used entire bottles of shampoo, which were given to him by his Shinra employers, whenever he washed his famously long hair.

What Did I Do Last Night?: In "Mystery Massacre", Little Mac, Palutena and Greninja find themselves in the woods, with Mac's leg pinned under a log. They have no idea how they got there, believing they were attacked. When they get back to the house and see it in ruins, Palutena believes Sephiroth's change of heart didn't work and he led a coordinated attack. Mac checks his phone and sees there's a video. Daisy brought Wonder Flowers over. Inside the house, the destruction is from a rager of a Halloween party.

Uncertain Doom: BotW Link in "Results may Fairy", as Kass helped the group assigned to revive him place him in the Shrine of Resurrection, but didn't tell them that Link would only awake after one hundred years had passed until after they locked the shrine. Link's picture is coloured in (indicating he can be revived), but has a question mark. Whether the group will resort to something to bring him back now, or find another BotW Link, is up in the air. The solution is time traveling into the future using the legendary Pokémon Dialga (and Palkia for traveling from Sinnoh to Hyrule).

Cue beat panel, then the two Freak Out. "Hylian Invasion" (amusingly also related to the shrine) has the Smashers realizing that they can use Dialga to travel 100 years into the future. Dialga declared that it would be possible if he used Young Link's Ocarina of Time as an aid, but it would be unsafe to head to Hyrule because it was far from Sinnoh and they can't leave the dead bodies unattended for too long. Isabelle stated her wish that they had a way to quickly navigate both time and space. Arceus and Dialga stare at each other for two beat panels, then Arceus asks if they had another Poké Ball (to catch Palkia).

Out of Focus: Pichu's masochism, an exaggeration from its original Smash appearance, was a prominent gag in the early days of the comic, whether as the main punchline or a background gag. Later on, Pichu would be side-lined in terms of screentime to the point where its masochism was hardly one of its defining traits. Incineroar, Kazuya, and Sephiroth were the most prominent characters during the Revival Arc and the Paldea Arc. However, starting with the Tears of the Kingdom Arc, their appearances became extremely sporadic, likely so that the comic could put more focus on the other Fighters and characters.

Wario tries to get Mr. Game & Watch to hit him with a 9 hammer. Incineroar hooks up a jumper cable on his tongue and is about to hook the other end to Pikachu. Shulk gets a warning from the Monado about Richter (who has a fiancée) winding up the Homerun Bat. Dr. Mario is throwing down his visor yelling "I QUIT" as we see the Amusing Injuries that happened. Falcon and Ganondorf have fist imprints on their faces while Falcon is carrying Sonic's lifeless body. Chrom's head has a bit of ceiling around his neck. Wario had the 9 hammer in his head. Official Couple: There are a few, both carried over from the source materials and created for the comic: Carried from canon, Mario and Peach are in a relationship, and so are Luigi and Daisy. Corrin is also stated to be married to his adoptive sister Camilla (one of the characters male Corrin actually has the possibility of marrying in Fire Emblem: Fates). Pyra and Mythra are both established as Rex's Violently Protective Girlfriend as soon as they are introduced. Chrom is married and with a daughter, but this doesn't stop him from looking for a Mistress (or even a male equivalent to that), much to Lucina's embarrassment. Relationships that are created for the comic include Samus and Snake (with the addition of Snake being married to Ness' mother as revealed in the bonus panels), Simon and Bayonetta before he breaks up with her over her allegedly cheating on him and moving on to Dark Samus... with the three of them deciding to be in a polyamory relationship later on.

Story Arc: After the period of gags, the comic transitioned into more-involved storylines that can take several months to complete: The first one involving seemingly all of the Smash Fighters being poisoned by Sephiroth, with the newly-arrived Kazuya and Incineroar—who survived because he was imprisoned elsewhere—having to lead things off to revive everyone and then eventually get revenge on Sephiroth for his actions. The second Arc features Incineroar, Kazuya, and Sephiroth—later joined by Daisy, Luigi, Kirby, Sora, and the Duck Hunt dog and duck—vacationing in Paldea and getting into various antics there; meanwhile, the Smash House deals with a Maushold infestation and eventual takeover after a few of the mouse-like Pokémon sneaks into their House. The third Arc features Link and Pikachu being stranded in Hyrule, both having acquired Rauru's arms, while the other Zelda Fighters sans Sheik have also been separated from each other after being split up by the Upheaval. Notably, this one is much less committed to following the story in Hyrule as it regularly cuts back to random antics revolving around the Smash House. The fourth Arc sees Tabuu and Galeem team up to capture 5,000 video game characters, drop them off on a deserted island, and force them to fight in a massive battle royale to see who the strongest warrior of them all is.

Characterization Marches On: King K. Rool during the early stages of Everyone Is Home used to be portrayed as a gentleman Mean Character, Nice Actor, had an affable tone towards everyone, and even lacked his bloodshot eye. Later on, he would go back to being unambiguously grouped as a villain, and he got his bloodshot eye back, though like many of the other villains, he has standards as he's the first one to tell everyone that Banjo and Kazooie's bodies are missing and refuses to join Sephiroth.

Stopped Reading Too Soon: Incineroar told Peach to use the Aum Staff to revive the Fire Emblem fighters before Isabelle could finish reading about the item and telling Incineroar that, because the staff has a durability of 1, it can only revive one person before breaking. As expected, Peach is only able to revive Marth and the staff breaks, rendering it useless. During the Paldea arc, Incineroar finds a note that was messaged to all Team Star members, stating they were all gathering at one of the bases in order to fight a new evil. When the traveling Smashers visit the base for the Team Star challenge, they are confronted by several mecha piloted by Team Star's leaders. Incineroar then notices that the Team Star note was folded in half, with the other half identifying him as the evil Team Star is opposing.

Paper-Thin Disguise: Whenever the groups travel to different areas to revive/replace the fighters in the "Everyone is Dead" arc, they will usually change their attire to blend in with the region. Later in the Paldea arc, none of the residents of Paldea are aware that Incineroar is actually a Pokémon, and believe him to be just another [buff] human.

Thankfully, Kazuya and Incineroar didn't fall victim and plan on resurrecting everyone, and in addition to that Kirby survived being poisoned, Samus wasn't present when the dinner took place, Byleth was immediately revived by Sothis but she played dead until Sephiroth left and went on her own quest to stop him once and for all, Pyra/Mythra merely fainted because Blades can't be killed by poisoning but couldn't auto-heal by themselves due to being stuck in battle mode because of the presence of monsters, and Joker barely survived the poisoning with 1 HP left thanks to Byleth giving him Pichu's Focus Band, but was still left unconscious.

Wham Shot: Two of them in "Secret Weapons". First, is Sephiroth getting his secret weapon from Hades in a box...only to find that it's Snake who puts him in a chokehold. To this, Sephiroth turns to Meta Knight to get Snake off him, but Meta Knight points off to the side for Sephiroth to see an unmasked Meta Knight waving at him alongside other fighters. He then turns around to see the defector "Meta Knight" no longer wearing armor...and a pink face covered in dark blue paint. In Death (Averted) From Above, Professor Sada is about to pull her Taking the Bullet for the first Koraidon, when she, the two Koraidon and AI Sada hear a loud explosion...at which point, Sephiroth and Kazuya's group as well as Sora and Arceus suddenly rain down with Sada letting out a "What the—-?", thus indicating the Smashers were in the past of Pokémon Scarlet all along. In the third to last panel of A Christmas Warol — Part 5, We see Wario, PaRappa, Cadence, Chai, Boyfriend and Pyoro and the silhouettes of characters such as Mario and Kirby clapping. Byleth was immediately revived by Sothis after she was poisoned, but realized that Sephiroth might have a backup plan if everyone were to be revived and departed on her own quest to put a stop to him, leaving behind a dummy of herself to fake her death. Depending on the game the fighter came from, they can easily be revived if a certain "state" is reached, which automatically revives them as seen as when Bayonetta revives the fighting game characters by starting "Round 2", which causes the "game" to detect a "KO" due to them having zero HP, reviving them after the round.

Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Several characters turn out to have survived or escaped Sephiroth's poisoning in one way or another: Kirby didn't actually die from Sephiroth's poisoning and is his usual self. As it turns out, Samus wasn't at the Kazuya welcoming party because she left for a mission to ZDR weeks prior and thus was not poisoned by Sephiroth. She left a spare Varia Suit behind and everyone thought that her body was inside it, so when she calls for help, she gets surprised by Bowser reacting to her being alive. Byleth was brought back immediately by Sothis using Divine Pulse, whereupon she faked her death and escaped the house to find a way to counteract any contingency schemes Sephiroth may have had planned. Pyra and Mythra simply fainted, as living Blades can't be killed by poison. Due to the presence of Monster-like fighters at the Smash Mansion, they were stuck in "Battle Mode" and were unable to auto-heal by themselves. Byleth placed Pichu's Focus Band on Joker, allowing him to live with 1 HP left, but still leaving him unconscious. The fighters didn't notice until they were told by her letter.

Meaningful Background Event: In "Of Dogs and Ducks... and Horses", Bowser shows Sora a list of all the fighters. They are listed under three categories: "Revived!", "?????", and "Working On!". The ones under "Working On!" are characters that can be revived through their respective means, while those under "?????" still apply for the Fridge Horror aspect of replacement. In "Metroid Med", the Duck Hunt Duck can be seen using Samus' Arm Cannon to shoot down an enemy. The next comic, "Duckfight", sees them use the Arm Cannon again to get the extra lives for the Star Fox fighters. When the Smashers go to a Pokémon Center to revive the rest of the Pokémon, Sora is seen being given a Master Ball for being the 1,000th visitor, which comes in handy when they go to Arceus to revive the rest of the Pokémon fighters and the God Pokémon is uncooperative.

Long Game: Sephiroth admits to having played this trope, playing the brain-damaged nice guy until he finally got everyone poisoned... except for Kazuya, Incineroar, Kirby (who survived because he is Kirby), Samus (who left on a mission before Sephiroth could poison her and left a spare Varia Suit behind), Byleth (who was immediately revived by Sothis, played dead until Sephiroth left the Smash Mansion, and departed on her own quest to put a stop to him), Pyra/Mythra (who were fainted due to Blades not being able to killed via poison, and unable to auto-heal due to the presence of many monstrous fighters), and Joker (who was left with 1 HP thanks to Byleth's quick thinking but still required external healing afterwards).

Spanner in the Works: For the "Sephiroth Brings Despair" Arc, Sakurai ends up being this in the long run: by ensuring Kirby locks Incineroar in the basement for figuring out Kazuya before the proper reveal, Incineroar is safe from the poisoning. Moreover, he also had Sora be given an invitation to Smash, meaning that Sora arrives just in time to stop Sephiroth from ensuring the dead Smashers at that point stay dead. Kazuya's late arrival counts too. Kirby also survives the poisoning. Turns out Samus wasn't present when Sephiroth poisoned everyone. She went off on a mission at the planet ZDR and left a spare Varia Suit behind. Sephiroth and Giratina could count as well, throwing a wrench in the heroes' side. Dedede, Kirby, Young Link, and Zelda thwarting Sephiroth's Elden Ring plan with their sudden teleportation in his hideout. Byleth saved Joker specifically because she knew that Joker's battle abilities will count as this in the upcoming final battle with Sephiroth. This was eventually revealed to be Joker's ability to jump into one's consciousness and force a change-of-heart, which he and the Smash House's Phantom Thieves succeed at doing in the end. Better yet, Sothis reviving Byleth helped since this gives Byleth the idea to fake her own death in the first place.

Sanity Slippage: Implied, but not outright confirmed. Sephiroth in "Hellraisers" has much more detail and exaggeration on his face, and his dialogue (with the exclamation marks) indicates a raised voice and yelling. This is a far cry from his appearance in "Sora at the Door-ah", where he is aware that his magnum opus is being undone, but still keeps a calm attitude and a normal voice. It is implied that his sanity takes hits at seeing his greatest masterpiece being slowly undone.

Because 1-UP Mushrooms did not work on Piranha Plant, Kazuya decides to raise a seed it had left behind to create a new Piranha Plant, whom he considers his child. He is not amused when Wario insults it. Instead of reviving Isabelle, Incineroar decides to just get another Isabelle from an abandoned New Horizons island. Even after the original Isabelle is revived, the second Isabelle decides to stick around and help. Incineroar attempts to catch replacement Pokémon in Kalos, but only finds a bunch of Com Mons. Undressing the Unconscious: Or rather: Undressing the Dead. Before Incineroar brings the Super Mario characters back to life, he wants to prank them a little more. He strips the dead bodies of Luigi, Peach, Daisy, and Wario down to their underwear and, alongside Mario, Bowser, Rosalina and Bowser Jr., doodles moustaches and whatnot on them, positions them in compromising, humiliating poses. That would be very macabre if the characters weren't drawn with goofy X-eyes. The Mario characters also end up shaving off part of Incineroar's fur for his troubles, though he says it was Worth It.

Knight of Cerebus: Yes, Sephiroth has his funny moments here and there, but staying true to his character, is genuinely evil and sticks out of the group like a sore thumb. This reaches his apex with "Dinner Despair", successfully poisoning everyone and taunting Cloud one last time before escaping. Thankfully, Kazuya and Incineroar intend on bringing everyone back. Sephiroth returns in "Sora is at the Door-ah" to kill Bowser (who wasn't able to find a disguise perfect for Hyrule) and destroy the rest of the bodies, but Sora's intervention saves both the Koopa King and everyone else. In "Hellrasiers", he tries to kill them all again with Giratina, only for Doomguy, Villager, Isabelle (the original one), and Bayonetta to arrive at just the right time. One horrible memory later, and sticks to the original plan of taking Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, and Xerneas. When Dedede, Young Link, Zelda, and Kirby find him in his Elden Ring hideout, he's in the middle of making a plan, and they beat him up offscreen. He then flees to the Forgotten Land, hoping they don't find him, but considering the antagonistic force in that game...

For the former two, this is notable in that the author expressed his dislike for Incineroar as a character when it was first revealed as an Ultimate newcomer (having a preference for fellow Pokémon Sun and Moon Starter Decidueye), and that he had no knowledge of the Tekken franchise upon Kazuya's reveal. Starting with the Tears of the Kingdom arc, they're currently Out of Focus.

Adaptational Nice Guy: King K. Rool is quite pleasant and well articulated in his interactions with Sakurai. That said, he does still engage in pranks and trolling with the other villains. Sephiroth shows that he's trying to correct his behavior after a bad start with the other fighters. Though it turns out to all be a façade so that he can murder everyone. Fortunately, he gets better in the Paldea arc. Ganondorf is also this, as he beats up the Yiga clan for offering his fellow fighters as a sacrifice, as well as the Phantom of his Tears self for trying to kill Toon Link. Ridley, known for orphaning Samus, attempting to kill her as a child and being a ruthless Space Pirate in his own franchise, is very adamant about reviving Ness and Lucas, not wasting time on frivolities, and chews out the Onett hospital for being a for-profit healthcare. As pointed out in Mean Character, Nice Actor below, this applies to most of the villains. Lynels in the Wild saga Zelda games are solitary warriors who don't take kindly to outsiders. Here, they are essentially a nomadic tribe whose members are willing to interact with other non-hostile species, with one pair even raising a family and taking in Young Link as a Replacement Goldfish.

The Cassandra: Cloud is the only one who feels like Sephiroth can't be trustworthy while everyone assumes he's being paranoid. They won't be thinking that anymore after Sephiroth poisoned them all. He spends the last panel of his revival comic rightfully telling them that he was right all along.

What Happened to the Mouse?
Everyone Is Home (Webcomic) / int_863fa679
comment
What Happened to the Mouse?: Several examples for some of the characters who are alternate skins for others: The Pokémon Trainer that Sephiroth killed was Leaf, with Red being nowhere to be seen outside of the 2018 Christmas comic Everyone is Celebrating (where Leaf was absent). Likewise, only the female Wii Fit Trainer is revived, while no mention is made of the male one outside of the 2018 Christmas comic. Although Wendy made a brief appearance when Pyra/Mythra joined the cast and again when Mario is suggesting the female fighters do an OnlyFans picture, the Koopalings are nowhere to be seen when Bowser Jr. is revived even though a later comic revives both Olimar and Alph and later both the female and male Inklings. Of the four Dragon Quest heroes, only the Luminary appears after Herodent in 2019, which only featured Eight. All four heroes showed up in Rare Weapon Choice, a comic made on their and Banjo's announcement, but Erdrick and Solo have not been seen since then. Both male and female versions of Byleth show up in the first comic they appear in. Following comics only show female Byleth, with the male one not being present when Sephiroth poisons everyone. Male Byleth's existence is still indirectly acknowledged by a female symbol over Byleth's ragdoll, and he was used as the main Byleth in Wooden Plank Studios' Three Houses strips. Likewise, we only ever see the male versions of Corrin and Robin outside of the 2018 Christmas comic. No mention of Cotera, her obsession with Luigi, or that she made him marry her against his will, is ever made after "Of Dogs and Ducks... and Horses" Spring-Man was last seen fuming when he gets a "Dickbutt" note from King K. Rool — as the croc supposedly waved a Smash invitation in front of Spring-Man's face to fess up about what he knew on Min-Min — and he's not seen as part of Byleth's cavalry.

Story-Breaker Power: Subverted in "Hellraisers" in the form of a Spanner in the Works. The cast about to use Xerneas to revive all the other dead Smash Bros. members, until Sephiroth appears with Giratina (being a Pokémon trainer himself to some extent), taking Xerneas, Dialga, Palkia, and Arceus. Subverted again later on. After Sephiroth's Awoofy tells him how Palutena and Little Mac were revived by the Rewind Spring, Sephiroth calls Hades and tells him to not allow the fighters to use the Spring again. Shulk does at least manage to sneak Snake's body hidden inside a box past Hades, though it comes with the side effect of him being stuck in the Underworld until someone comes to pick him up.

Bait-and-Switch: "Valentine's Night" has the comic thinking everyone is writing love letters to their love interests, canon or implied. Mario to Peach, Luigi to Daisy, Link to Zelda, Snake to Samus, and Pit to Palutena. And then it's revealed they were all being sent to... Lady Dimitrescu. In "Soupiroth", you would think that the cloaked, silver-haired figure who is approaching Kirby, Simon, and Wario is Sephiroth right? Nope. It's just Toon Link's Grandma.

Back from the Dead: After Sephiroth kills seemingly all the Smash Fighters with poison at the E3 2021 welcoming party, the ensuing arc is about reviving them. In order: Sephiroth and Kazuya: Neither of them actually die. Sephiroth leaves thinking his master stroke is complete, while Kazuya arrives after the fact. Incineroar: He wasn't actually at the party, instead having been imprisoned in the basement by Kirby for trying to spoil Kazuya and Sora's arrivals. Kirby: He somehow survived getting poisoned and flew out of the pit Kazuya dumped him down. Yoshi: Rather than reviving him properly, a new Yoshi is hatched from one of Waluigi's spare Yoshi eggs. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Wario, Rosalina, Bowser Jr., and Daisy: All revived via 1-UP Mushrooms. Piranha Plant: The original rotted away but left a seed behind, which Kazuya uses to grow a new Piranha Plant. Isabelle: Instead of reviving Isabelle, Incineroar and Kazuya travel to a random Animal Crossing island to pick up a new Isabelle (the original is brought back from Hell by Doomguy later on though). Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong: Cranky Kong offers a couple 1-UP Balloons to Kazuya and Incineroar, but at the cost of Kazuya's pants and a coat made of Incineroar's fur (with a hat for Squawks). Ice Climbers: With Madeline's help, Kazuya and Incineroar find some 1-UP Corns. Simon and Richter: Alucard helps Incineroar, Kazuya, and Kirby collect a couple of Magic Crystals from boss monsters in Castlevania. King K. Rool: Somehow gets revived by the Blood Moon in Hyrule due to his similarities to a "fat lizalfos". Zelda and Young Link: Peach and Daisy bring them back by using fairies. Link: With the help of Kass, Rosalina, Yoshi, Richter and Bowser Jr. place Link in the Shrine of Resurrection, with Kass not mentioning that it takes a hundred years for Link to be revived this way until the Shrine is sealed (the other fighters later retrieve him from the future with Dialga and Palkia's help). Toon Link: Gets revived by a bowl of his grandma's Elixir Soup. Sheik: Mario, DK and the Ice Climbers bring Sheik back with a fairy. Ganondorf: Mario, DK and the Ice Climbers try to use a fairy to revive him, but the fairy refuses. He later gets revived by the efforts of the Yiga Clan. Sora: He actually arrives later, just in time to stop Sephiroth from destroying the other fighters' bodies. Dunk Hunt Duo: Luigi convinces Malanya to revive them, despite the fact that they're not horses. Samus: She was never actually at the party, due to being on a mission to ZDR. Instead she left behind a spare suit. Dark Samus: Samus revives her via one of the Chozo recharge stations in ZDR. Fox, Falco, and Wolf: Revived when the Duck Hunt duck takes Samus' arm cannon and performs some impressive aerial maneuvers to collect 1-UPs. Olimar, Alph and Ridley: Planted by Pikmin on PNF-404 to revive as part-Pikmin. Banjo & Kazooie: Master Chief hits them with Gruntilda's Big-O-Blaster to revive them. Pikachu and Pichu: Recharged by a friendly trainer's Electivire. Jigglypuff: Resurrected by Arceus. Mewtwo, Pokemon Trainer (including Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard), Lucario, and Greninja: Revived by Xerneas. Villager and Bayonetta: Brought back from Hell by Doomguy alongside the original Isabelle. Steve: Respawns besides the last bed he slept in, which happens to be Bayonetta's bed. Shulk: Revived when some of his friends hit him with their best healing spells. R.O.B. and Mega Man: Shulk is able to fix the former up due to his engineering skills, but since the latter is too advanced for Shulk to repair, he, Isabelle, and Kirby take Mega Man to Dr. Light to get him fixed up. Ryu, Ken, and Terry: With advice from Scorpion and help from Kazuya, Bayonetta makes use of After-Combat Recovery to revive the trio. Hero: The Isabelles take a bunch of the fighters on a camping trip, which revives Hero after a night of camping. Ness and Lucas: Ridley, Peach, and Daisy bring them to the hospital in Onett, where the two princesses pay for their hospital bills with the money they made selling bikinis and underwear made of fur. Min Min: Ness and Lucas revive her by feeding her a Cup of Lifenoodles. Inklings: Get splatted and revived by a homemade respawn point, though too much power gets used, so they come out looking like Handsome Squidward (they get returned to normal later by Nova). Mr. Game & Watch: Sora revives him with a papercraft 1-UP. King Dedede: Gets revived when Bandana Waddle Dee makes a wish on Nova. Meta Knight: Dedede, Kirby, Zelda, and Young Link deliberately get themselves killed (though Kirby survives) while in the Elden Ring world to trick the respawn system into thinking Meta Knight died with them. Sonic: While still in the world of Elden Ring, Dedede contracts Smithing Master Hewg to make 100 rings to revive Sonic. Captain Falcon: During an F-Zero race, Shulk and DK have Kazuya disguise himself as the captain, place the corpse in the trunk of the Blue Falcon, and make use of Sonic hyped up on coffee, equipped with a bunny hood, and holding the Monado in Speed Mode to gain enough points to give Captain Falcon an extra life. Mii Brawler, Mii Swordfighter, and Mii Gunner: Mario, Toon Link and Rosalina take the former two to the Mii Channel, where the Wii Remote cursor gives them new eyes to revive them. After clarifying that Mii Gunner and Sans are two different characters, Incineroar and Ryu revive her the same way. Pit: Isabelle 1 and Captain Falcon feed him some floor ice cream (it gives you health!). Dark Pit: Fox uses the Drink of the Gods Meta Knight obtained to revive Pit, though Fox has to taint it black with Brewster's coffee because Dark Pit didn't want to admit a pink drink had brought him back. Pac-Man: Ganondorf, Greninja, Kazuya, and Luigi try to play the titular game to get 10,000 points to revive Pac-Man, but get kicked out after defeating an enemy in an unconventional way and rely on Mega Man's Mega Buster shots (they look like Pac-Man pellets) to do the job instead. Wii Fit Trainer: The Acolytes of the Supreme Sun use the Sun Salutation to revive their sun-worshipping sister. Little Mac and Palutena: They get dipped in the Rewind Spring by Samus and the two Pits. Palutena is brought back with no problems, but Mac comes out as a baby after the others accidentally left him inside the spring for too long (he's later returned to his normal age by Dialga). Snake: Shulk gets a vision that Sephiroth set up Hades to guard the Rewind Spring from further usage, so he tricks the God of the Underworld into chucking a box that holds Snake's corpse into it. Marth: Incineroar has Peach use an Aum Staff brought by Alm and Celica to revive all the Fire Emblem characters at once, though it turns out it only has a durability of 1, so Peach only manages to revive Marth before the staff breaks, rendering it useless. Byleth: She was actually brought back immediately thanks to Sothis' Divine Pulse, but chose to fake her death to stop any backup plans Sephiroth might have in store. Corrin and Chrom: Get revived by a Bifröst Staff by Mii Gunner dressed up as a maid. Robin: Chrom coaches the other fighters and a couple of allies in reviving Robin via the Power of Friendship, which takes effect once Incineroar and Kazuya bring Chrom's sister Lissa into the group. Pyra & Mythra: It turns out they didn't actually die because Blades can't be killed by poison, but were still knocked unconscious. And since they share life force with their Driver Rex, his party uses Sandbag to fill up their party gauge to heal him, and thus the Aegis. Roy, Ike, and Lucina: Isabelle 1 and Ken use a series of sacred springs in Valentia to revive the three of them. Joker: It turns out he didn't die from the poison either since Byleth slipped Pichu's Focus Band on him to let him survive with only 1 HP but still fall unconscious, letting Morgana heal him fully with Zorro's powers. Cloud: Tifa suggests using a large and beautiful Phoenix Down, and Barret is able to do the job using one of Kazooie's Gold Feathers.

Didn't Think This Through: During a drinking contest with Bayonetta, Pyra intends on beating her by switching to Mythra to start over fresh. She failed to remember that they share the same damage, so she ends up in the hospital anyway. Isabelle tries to bring Daniela Dimitrescu to the museum, since she's made of a bunch of flies. Blathers finds the idea ridiculous, then Daniela explodes into flies, scaring him unconscious. Isabelle lampshades that she should have seen this coming. Incineroar and Kazuya go and get the corn to revive the Ice Climbers. Only, they did it without any winter gear. They are found frozen in place by Madeline from Celeste. During the Hyrule sub-arc, Kass suggests to the group in charge of reviving Link to use the Shrine of Resurrection to get him back, but apparently failed to tell the group that this method has Link enter a deep slumber from which he will only awake after a hundred years have passed before even placing him inside the shrine. Wham Episode: When a comic or arc goes through a major turn of events, it's in the form of a Wham Shot or a Wham Line, but due to the comic's duration, it's counted as this. "Dinner Despair" is agreed on to be the first major whammy from the team, mostly due to a happy event gone completely sour, an intentional poisoning plot, and said planner is Sephiroth. It marks the series' descent into the Cerebus Rollercoaster. In "Status Report – Part 2", it reveals that Byleth had used Divine Pulse, but decided to fake her death so that she could figure out any sort of backup plans that Sephiroth might have in store.

Character Exaggeration: Sakurai's habit of killing or hurting fighters in reveal trailers leaves everyone terrified of being featured in the next fighter reveal. Pichu in this universe is a full-blown masochist who tries to hurt itself with whatever means possible, a parody of its Smash incarnation whose electric attacks damage itself. The gag however was phased out as the series went on. The Belmonts will attack anything they deem to be supernaturally evil in nature including Bayonetta and Sakurai. They've calmed down lately. Sephiroth's cruelty manifests as extreme trolling. He sends fake invitations to fan-requested fighters that have crude drawings of "dickbutts" drawn inside. And then he murders every fighter (except Incineroar, Kazuya, Kirby, and Samus) by poisoning them as a prank. He also stops wearing a shirt after a while.

Laser-Guided Karma: Sephiroth sends fake Smash invites to a number of characters just to troll them. On the next strip, he gets the crap beaten out of him by a very angry Doom Slayer and contorted into said drawing. Later still, Pyra and Mythra cave his skull in with their sword for making Rex cry. Even better, when he later appears at the mansion to make sure the many people he killed are not able to be revived, Sora, who also got one of his letters, happens to stop by and beat him up along with Bowser. What happens to Wario after telling Kazuya to let Piranha Plant rot. Considering that he did pull off the Karma Houdini card a few times, it can be satisfying for him to be near the cliff. Spring-Man gets this for his refusal to help K. Rool and Leaf (Female Pokémon Trainer) in reviving Min-Min, even saying she deserves it for "taking" his spot. Not even Waluigi was this petty and vengeful. To see K. Rool trick Spring Man with a fake Smash Invitation to get him to spill his guts. The pay-off is quite fitting, as it is the very same trick Sephiroth used no less. During their vacation in Paldea, Incineroar does a number of dickish things to the other Trainers there, such as dropkicking a boy to steal his Miraidon away, and using Floragato's Amulet Coin to extort more money out of a young girl they had defeated, causing her to be unable to feed her Happiny. Both Trainers end up joining Team Star, and due to other actions offscreen, Incineroar is put right in Team Star's cross-hairs as a bully that needs to be dealt with. At the end of their confrontation, Team Star ends up defeating Incineroar, forcing him to give back everything he stole including the Miraidon.

Heel Realization: As per the bonus panels for "A Fight for the Aegis", Peach and Daisy realized that their lingerie line made from Littens and Sabrecats simply wasn't ethical note Not to mention from a pragmatic view, there's only so many eligible models for it go around so they closed up shop...albeit, not without getting Pyra/Mythra - who are implied to be none the wiser about where the lingerie is sourced - to pose for the very last collection's rollout. Rosalina then takes advantage of this and starts her own lingerie line made of Teddiursa fur, basically stealing Peach and Daisy's business.

Riddle for the Ages: Why can Incineroar talk despite canonically not having any special ability to do so, but the other Pokémon (with the obvious exceptions of Mewtwo and Lucario) can only communicate via Pokémon Speak? The comic never provides an answer to this. After Doomguy brings Bayonetta, Villager, and the original Isabelle back from Hell, Samus asks a question that gets no answer:

Foreshadowing: In "The Things We Do for Love", Sephiroth is reading a book on how to not be an asshole, or how to be nice, somewhere along those lines. He's studying from a book instead of reading or understanding proper body language on how to be nice, foreshadowing that his 'brain-dead nice guy' act was all a fraud. When he introduces Pyra/Mythra as 'bringer of despair', it could be an allusion to his character in canon, but maybe he slipped his intentions for a second there, in a subtle way. In the last panel of "Cloudtop Bruise", there's a notice on the wall about Sephiroth & Squirtle's Big E3 Dinner Party. In "Cranky King", look at what Isabelle's reading in the second last panel, "ICE CLIMBER'S HISTORY". The next comic, Maize Climbers, they're the next to be revived. When the team uploads teasers of Wednesday's comics on their Twitter, said panel can be used to determine what the next story is about. When Byleth departs, saying she'll come back when the Smash Bros. needs her most, it could be a proud declaration of wanting to prove herself once and for all, but it could also foreshadow that even when the last fighter is revived, the story will not conclude so quickly. It seems very odd that Meta Knight just stands there and doesn't fight the Smashers even after defecting to Sephiroth. That's because he didn't; it's Kirby all along. Moreover Meta Knight never says anything until the big reveal because if he did, all he could say was "Poyo" and thus give away the ruse too so on.

Status Quo Is God: Some comics somewhat revert to a status quo when wrapped up, with a possible allusion to another comic every now and then. However, there were two instances where the status quo is changed. When there is a new character introduced to Ultimate, they are now a resident at the Smash House. Dinner Despair is a shocking subversion. You'd think everyone could come back alive and well in the next strip or Kazuya could spend one comic reviving everyone by throwing them off the cliff? You're sorely mistaken when you read the words, "Wooden Plank Studios presents Everyone is Home: The "Everyone got Murdered by Sephiroth so now Kazuya has to Bring Everyone Back" arc.

Loophole Abuse: In "Hyrule Travelers", Isabelle takes advantage of the Blood Moon and the fact that K. Rool sort of resembles a Lizalfos to revive him easily. Becomes darkly hilarious when you remember that they didn't revive Isabelle, they just replaced her until the other one returned from the depths of Hell. In an allusion to what fans might be thinking now that they have the Creation trio (sans Giratina) and Xerneas, the fighters can use them to revive everyone. Unfortunately, Sephiroth anticipated this and uses Giratina to steal the fighters' Pokémon and thwart their plan. After watching Mega Man being revived by an extra life head, Kirby attempts to use a decapitated Mushroom Kingdom penguin head to revive King Dedede. As seen by the "fighters revived" panel, it didn't work, but kudos to him for trying. "Mr. Arts & Crafts" sees Sora manage to revive Mr. Game & Watch... by using black construction paper and cutting out a "1UP". How were the Mii Fighters revived? By taking them to the Mii Channel... and having their eyes replaced. In "Multi-Purpose Pellets", Pac-Man consumes one of Mega Man's buster shots as if it was a Pac-Man pellet. The gang revives him by feeding him enough buster shots to reach 10,000 points. Bayonetta gets advice from Scorpion on how to revive Ryu, Ken and Terry Bogard — just recreate the HUD of a fighting game (via Winged Pikmin and cardboard health bars) and then announce "Round 2: FIGHT!" to which they instantly get back up.

Everyone Has Standards: Incineroar might have been classified as a villain in an earlier strip, but he thinks it's messed up when he attempts to eat Pikachu and Pichu. He also tells Kazuya that he has issues after he throws nearly all the fighters into a volcano. He does not seem to have a good opinion of Sephiroth either (and it's implied he knew of his end goal). Waluigi might still be angry for not being invited as a playable character, but he's not so petty that he won't agree to help Incineroar, Kirby, and Kazuya with reviving the Mario Characters (in contrast to Spring Man spitefully saying Min-Min got what she deserved for "stealing" his place in the roster). It helps that what he wants in return is pretty humble. Peach and Daisy, who had shaved Incineroar after his prank on them, look disturbed after he is almost fully shaven by Cranky Kong as payment for the extra-life balloons to revive the Kongs. It's subverted in the bonus panels however, as it's revealed that the reason why they are shaken by this is because now they won't have any fur for their lingerie business until a while has passed. If Isabelle 2 is as deserving of Hell as the original Isabelle, then her reaction to seeing Kirby trying to use a decapitated Mario penguin's head to revive King Dedede is this. Ridley is disgusted with the fact that the Onett Hospital overcharges those who wish to bring back the dead and constantly increases the price as well.

Take That!: If you look closely at the trash in the last panel of "A Piercing Speech", there's a copy of Mighty No. 9. A ruined Konami building can be seen in the background in one of the panels in "Super Space Bros.". During Corrin's revival, the support system in Fire Emblem Fates gets a turn as the other fighters finds the ships of Elise with Benny and Corrin with Camilla very disturbing. One of the villains of Sephiroth's army is Bobby Kotick. Incineroar, Kazuya, and Sephiroth nearly cut their vacation in Paldea short the moment they see invokedhow glitchy the place is. The Smashers hold a yard sale selling useless clutter they don't know why they got in the first place. Including male Corrin. One Bonus comic implies the author is not a fan of Family Guy.

The “Christmas Warol arc’s Bonus Panels contains a side plot involving Professor Layton and Aerith being evil. In the final bonus panels of the arc, Chun-Li is seen talking to some fellow audience members who didn’t enjoy the Layton/Aerith plot as they think the sex and violence clashes with the wholesomeness of the play. Said people are Vaas Montenegro, Trevor Phillips, and Conker, whose home video games have plenty of said sex and violence.

He also throws a huge wrench in a later plan of theirs to use the Rewind Spring to revive the other Smashers by having Hades guard the Spring and telling him not to let the fighters use it. Another example comes in the form of the Smash fighters coming across a revival wand from Fire Emblem, as it breaks once Peach uses it to revive Marth due to it having a durability of 1.

Subverted Suspicion Aesop: Cloud is treated by the rest of the roster as wrong for refusing to trust Sephiroth even after his Heel–Face Turn. He was right the whole time. As soon as Cloud finally relents and gives Sephiroth a chance, he stabs everyone in the back. Naturally, once Cloud is finally revived, he is not happy that no one believed him until it bit them all in the ass.

Screw This, I'm Outta Here: As shown in the page image, Pit can be seen jumping out the window as Sakurai asks for volunteers for the next fighter's trailer, while Olimar takes off with the Winged Pikmin. Seeing Sora arrive at the mansion prompts Sephiroth to run for his life, not wanting to fight the boy for a third time. A couple of monsters in Hyrule decide to leave for the Mushroom Kingdom when a group of Smashers riding on Arceus, Dialga, and Palkia appear to reunite with the revived Link, trampling on the monsters in the process. Happens to Sephiroth yet again when he sees the Doom Slayer drag Villager, Bayonetta and the original Isabelle back from hell, remembering what happened last time he pulled a prank on him. The fighters sent to Nohr apparently left as soon as they got a Bifröst staff, after learning what is considered an acceptable relationship in Corrin's homeland. Once Sephiroth has his heart changed due to Kirby's Friend Heart, the rest of his villain army goes home not wanting to follow him anymore. Attempted by Incineroar, Kazuya, and Sephiroth the moment they see just what a buggy mess Paldea is. It's only Nemona's appeal to their masculine egos that makes them stay.

When the group go to Kalos to find Xerneas so they can revive the rest of the Pokémon fighters, they find Incineroar trying to catch replacement Pokémon with no luck. While ranting, he tosses one of his catches into a Wonder Trade machine...which pops out Xerneas in return. In "Go Touch Some Grace", when King Dedede shakes Melina's hand, he accidentally warps the party to the Roundtable Hold where Sephiroth has been hanging out. Ness and Lucas just so happen to be slurping on cups of Lifenoodles (the revival item from their game series) just after Spring-Man reveals that Min-Min wanted to replicate the recipe.

Joker also wasn't killed by Sephiroth due to Byleth stealing Pichu's Focus Band and giving it to him, which luckily made Joker survive the poisoning at 1 HP, but it still rendered him unconscious, requiring the intervention of Morgana and the healing powers of his Persona, Zorro.

Incineroar won the vote, and a second poll was held to determine who would get Sprigatito and Quaxly between Kazuya and Sephiroth; Kazuya ended up getting Sprigatito and Sephiroth got Quaxly. Another poll was also held after the conclusion of the Paldea arc to determine which five Fighters would accompany Link and Zelda to Hyrule for the Tears of the Kingdom arc. They have been revealed to be Pikachu, the other two Links, Ganondorf, and thanks to the Bonus Panels, Villager. For The Ultimate Battle Royale arc, the comic's Patreon announced that its Discord would be open for readers to make suggestions for match-ups that they would like to see.

Children Raise You: Kazuya raises a seed the previous Piranha Plant had left behind until a new Piranha Plant is born. Kazuya is very protective of the plant and clearly considers it his child, as Wario found out when he told Kazuya to let it rot. By the time Kazuya meets with his dad in a bonus panel, he decides to spare him because Pirahna Plant has changed him. When Little Mac is de-aged into a child after being left in the Rewind Spring for too long, Samus grows attached to him and seemingly has decided to take care of him. Even when Isabelle says that they need to work on turning Mac into an adult again, Samus is against it, saying that he's perfect the way he is. It's possible that he reminds her of the Baby Metroid... Notably, she's very unhappy when Dialga ages him back to normal at the end of the revival arc.

Reverse Psychology: This is how Incineroar manages to talk the Isabelle of Buttville Island to leave with him and Kazuya. After she makes a point of refusing to go, opting to stay and wait for the island representative to return (even though it's been eight months since she was last seen), Incineroar states that he understands her stance, as she seems busy and the task they need her for would require a ton of research, hard work, and problems to solve... And one cut later, she angrily arrives at the Smash House, lugging suitcases.

Faking the Dead: After being almost instantly revived by Sothis via Divine Pulse, Byleth, who wants to both prove herself and stop Sephiroth in case he has a backup plan, pretends being dead until Sephiroth flees the Smash mansion, makes a decoy dummy of herself and passes it up as her own dead body, and departs on a solo quest. Brick Joke: Sora first appeared as one of the recipients of Sephiroth's "dickbutt" prank. In "Sora at the Door-ah", Sora tells Sephiroth that he got his real invitation. Later on, in the "Super Space Bros." strip, Master Chief, another recipient of Sephiroth's "dickbutt" prank, joins the Smash gang as a Guest-Star Party Member. As Sephiroth prepares to kill everyone in "Hellraisers", Doomguy, who had kicked Sephiroth's butt for his prank, returns and prompts Sephiroth to bail as he still has trauma from their last encounter. After Sephiroth poisons everyone, Cloud says "You son of a-" before dying. When Cloud is revived, he wakes up saying "BITCH!" Phoenix Wright, Crash Bandicoot, Rayman and Shantae, all victims of the "dickbutt" prank, are part of The Cavalry.
